MUNSTER | You’ve probably heard beer drinkers generally agree some of the best beer in the world is brewed right in Munster.
Three Floyds Brewing made the world’s fourth best beer in 2014, according to the popular craft beer website RateBeer. Hill Farmstead Brewery in Vermont, Toppling Goliath in Iowa and Mikkeller in Denmark — a Three Floyds collaborator — placed ahead of the Munster-based craft brewery in the annual competition.
Three Floyds is a widely acclaimed region institution that has been crafting “not normal” beers like Imperial India Pale Ales for nearly two decades. RateBeer named Three Floyds best in the world in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. It finished third last year, based on users’ reviews.
Three Floyds, known for its bold flavors, intense use of hops and heavy metal aesthetic, won a host of other awards. Its double black IPA Blakkr and the Rue D’Floyd Imperial Strong Porter it collaborated on with California-based The Bruery were both named among the world’s top new beer releases.
Rue D’Floyd, Dreadnaught Imperial IPA, Zombie Dust, Alpha King, Gumballhead and Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout Bourbon Vanilla Bean all ranked among the best beers by style, according to the website, which has hundreds of thousands of members in more than 100 countries worldwide.
Alpha King, Dark Lord, Dreadnaught and Zombie Dust also were named among the top beers in the world.
Beer aficionados again decided Three Floyds was the best craft brewery in the state of Indiana. Its Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout Bourbon Vanilla Bean was the best Indiana beer.
The brewery at 9750 Indiana Parkway is currently undergoing a massive $10 million expansion that will allow it to boost production to 100,000 barrels a year and start distilling spirits, including a Dark Lord whiskey.”FULL ARTICLE HERE
